- Did you measure the resistance between conductors of the longer cable? In
- the States, "off hook" is a resistance, the phone circuitry. If you had a
- short either in the cable or the connectors (i.e., check the socket pins),
- your line would be seen as busy to an outside caller. NOTE: take care to
- not make any measurements while connected to the phone service.
